Dance steps. Isadora Duncan and the figurative arts in Italy between the nineteenth century and the avant-garde is the first Italian exhibition dedicated to Isadora Duncan, the founder of modern dance. Contrary to the rigidity of ballet in the early twentieth century, she performed in her “free dances” with bare feet and carried away by emotion. This is the reason why the liberation of female body from constraints is the main them of the exhibition.

It hosts 175 pieces among paintings, sculptures and unpublished photographs which show the great influence this famous dancer had on Italy and its artists. The Stefano Bardini Museum also houses a special section dedicated to large sculptures and paintings.

The aim of the exhibition is to broaden the knowledge of the bond between Italy and this great figure of the past, a revolutionary and independent spirit who gained a prominent place in the international art scene.

The exhibition, edited by Maria Flora Jubilee and Carlo Sisi, is set on two floors of the magnificent Villa Bardini, now museum space, place of events and above all cultural center, which thanks to its location in Costa San Giorgio, offers a wonderful view of Florence.

Among them “Vita” with performances by young dancers from different dance schools and “Lezioni di gesto”, a series of open-air teachings dedicated to the force of gesture and landscape.
