An itinerary that spans seven centuries inside the oldest still active hospital in the world.

The Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova, the oldest hospital still active in Florence, is located in the historic center of the city. Through the centuries the hospital has been enriched thanks to nsantamarianuova2umerous legacies and donations, arriving to preserve over 700 works among paintings, frescoes, sculptures and furnishings of great value.

Today it is possible to admire the artistic and architectural treasures of this hospital thanks to the museum itinerary of the Santa Maria Nuova Museum Hospital. The museum itinerary starts with a visit to the loggia, enriched by a series of frescoes dedicated to the "Stories of the life of Christ" made by Pomarancio to the wonderful Church of Sant'Egidio which hosted the works of some of the most important artists of the Renaissance, like Domenico Veneziano, Andrea del Castagno and Alessio Baldovinetti.

Furthermore, from October 25th the Botanical Garden has been reopened in the cloister of the Medicherias: to read more about the article dedicated to the botanical garden of Santa Maria Nuova.
