Since the Galileo Museum took this name (it was called Institute and Museum of History of Science), it has wished to give more emphasis to Galileo’s heritage.

The museum has an invaluable heritage of experimental instruments and apparatuses and, at the same time, it is an institute engaged in research and documentation activities, which makes the considerable resources of its remarkably rich library, also accessible to the Internet, available to the scholars from all over the world.

The exhibition path shows more than 1000 instruments and apparatuses, not only of great scientific importance, but also of exceptional beauty.

The cornerstone revolves around the extraordinary figure of Galileo, reconstructing the events of Florence and Tuscany, which under the Medici and Lorraine families was not only the incomparable cradle of arts, but also the centre of excellence of scientific knowledge, as well as the incubator and theatre of episodes and discoveries that have deeply marked the history of modern science.

The elegant showcases enhance the aesthetic quality of the objects, ensuring their perfect preservation at the same time.
