Planning a trip is essential for anyone, even more for groups, including school ones. Here you will find a list of useful advices to organize your stay in all its aspects.

Let's start from the period: considering that school trips usually happen mainly between March and May, we suggest you to choose, - compatibly with educational needs - other periods too; in some winter months (for example November, January and February) the city is definitely less crowded, and therefore much more enjoyable.

le gite di istruzioneInfopoints

In the city centre there are several tourist information offices, where you can pick up leaflets (starting with the usual maps) and get information provided from experienced persons working with passion. In particular we recommend the infopoint on piazza stazione 4 (next to the apse of the Santa Maria Novella church) and on via Cavour 1R (next to Palazzo Medici Riccardi). The first one - where, moreover, groups have priority access - is open every day h. 9-19 and Sunday h. 9 -14; the second one, from Monday to Friday h. 9 -13.

A particular section of this website is devoted to accommodation; a search engine allows you to consult a database that is updated in real time. The ADVANCED SEARCH feature provides for example the selection of hotels that accept groups, or the educational activities taking place in farmhouse accommodation; in fact school groups can stay , in addition to hotels , even in religious institutes, hostels and farmhouses, both in the city and in its province.

Where to eat with a school group

The section dedicated to eating out includes a selected and updated list of restaurants, trattorias, pizzerias, self-services and cafés able to meet your every need, as regards both location and menu ranges, with special offers. Then there are univeristy canteens (the most central one is Santa Apollonia, on via Santa Reparata 12) offering dining services even to students on a school trip, subject to booking by e-mail at the address: Starting from March 1st 2017 the cost of a meal will be € 7,00 per pupil.

Packed lunch can be eaten in large public spaces, like gardens. The garden on piazza D'Azeglio is located rather centrally (with toilet facilities); furthermore there are the gardens along the Arno river like Parco dell'Albereta (Lungarno Colombo), the gardens on Lungarno S. Rosa, the Cascine Park (from piazzale Vittorio Veneto to Ponte all'Indiano), the garden at the Fortezza da Basso.
Remember: Boboli Garden is a museum, it is not a pic nic area.

School groups guidelines for admission to museums

No discounts are available to Non-EU school groups (except the usual free entrance under 18 years of age); booking is still possible, upon payment.

In municipal museums - except the Santa Maria Novella complex - free entrance is available to all school groups, UE and non-UE.
