villa di castello

The Villa Reale di Castello is one of the the Medici villas situated in the Florentine territory, at a stone’s throw from Villa della Petraia, at a very short distance from Florence. All the Medici villas are nominated to be included in the World Heritage list according to UNESCO.

la villa di castelloBesides having been one of the Medici family’s residences, this villa also hosts the Crusca Academy, a prestigious cultural institution aimed at protecting and monitoring the Italian language.
Usually, the Villa di Castello cannot be visited except for its garden, known especially for its historic collection of citrus fruit (which the Medici Family liked very much and used to graft with delight).
Finally, with a series of guided tours, on the first Sunday of each month, it will be possible to visit the inside of the villa as well, together with the works of art hosted in it, such as the famous shovels of the Cruscanti or the Library.
The tours are organized by the Sigma Cultural Service Cooperative. The full-price ticket costs €5 with reductions for students and young people.
The tours are held on the first Sunday of every month at 10am – 10:30am – 11am – 11:30am -12pm.

For advance reservations, please refer to the
Sigma Cultural Service Cooperative by calling +39 055 2001278 or emailing accademiadellacrusca@cscsigma.it.
