bagno a ripoli cimitero monumentale

When Florence had already assumed the role of capital of Italy, the cemetery became interesting for the local and Florentine nobility, which built several chapels; moreover, here rest renowned poets and literary men, architects, composers and musicians, politicians, art scholars, painters and sculptors. The character of the cemetery was so monumental that many artists worked for busts, bas-reliefs, gravestones and medallions, but the most important aspect is the stained-glass windows and ceramics made by the Chini family.
Galileo Chini, in particular, carried out the works between 1906 and 1946: he built the dome and underway of the central arch at the entrance to the cemetery just before he left for Siam, were he was entrusted with the task of painting the palace of the throne. Moreover, the artist is buried in this cemetery.
