Tram lines and city bus services (red and white, or blue and grey or orange buses) are the public transport in Florence.
new-busThe new tram lines T1 connect the parking of Villa Costanza at Scandicci (suburb of the city) with the city center and the Hospital of Careggi, in the north of Florence passing in front of the central station and the city center.
A second tram line T2 is going to connect SMN Central station to the Airport Vespucci: the working area is going to finish in September and the service will start in Autumn 2018.
On buses and tramls you can travel only  by purchasing tickets in advance (before getting on the bus or tram) from authorized sales points (bars, tobacconists, newsagents) and from the ATAF hall which is inside the SMN train station. Tickets must be immediately punched in the machines, as you get on board.
A 90 minutes ticket costs € 1.50. You can also buy a 90' ticket by sending a sms (text: ATAF) to this number  4880105 (only for Italian SIM card). Get on board only after receiving the answer vis SMS.
Electric buses move in the historical centre; they also reach the pedestrian areas. There are four lines: C1 - C2 - C3 - D; the route C1 is convenient for visiting the most important museums of Florence.
Public lines that reach interesting points for tourists:
nr. 7  to Fiesole from the station
nr. 10 from piazza San Marco (Florence) to the Stadium and then Settignano
nr. 12 and 13 from Rotonda Barbetti (via Il Prato) to Piazzale Michelangelo
nr. 14A (Girone) or 14 (Ripa) from piazza San Marco (Florence) to viale Dalla Chiesa (camping Firenze)
nr. 25A from via La Pira (piazza San Marco, Florence) to Pratolino (Parco Mediceo)
nr. 2 from railway station SMN to Medici Villas of Petraia and Castello
nr. 37 from railway station SMN through Porta Romana to Bottai (International Camping)
Until September 16, 2018 a special bus service within the Cascine Park is available, riding from the Tramway Stop (Carlo Monni) to the Palazzina dell'Indiano.
The towns in the surroundings can be reached by public buses, color green or blue, owned by different companies. The main ones are:

(main destinations: Siena, San Gimignano, Mugello) Ticket office & departures: via Santa Caterina da Siena 17 (next to Santa Maria Novella Railway Station)
CAP(main destinations: Prato, Pistoia, Viareggio) Ticket office: Largo Alinari 10 (next to Santa Maria Novella Station). Departures: Stazione Leopolda
